The Bloody Tower takes its name from the execution of the "little Princes," Edward V and his brother, the Duke of York, by Sir James Tyrrell and his accomplices in 1483. From 1603 to 1616 it was occupied by Sir Walter Raleigh; it was at the study shown in the photo above that he wrote his famous history of the world. Built in 1225, the tower  was originally known as the Garden Tower. Its name changed following the smothering of the Princes.
