Suraj Pol

The approach to the Suraj Pol by elephant  The Suraj Pol Gate

The Suraj Pol (in English, "Sun Gate") is so named because it faces the east. The Sun is also the symbol found on the family emblem of the Kachawaha rajputs, who first built the fort. The photo to the right shows offers a close-up of the main gate itself, while the photo to the left shows the winding path leading up to the Suraj Pol.
